- students who traveled to the exchange mobility in Greece will write a short text about their
experiences and present the activities they participated in to their school MA(R)TH team:
Text about mobility:
As a part of the MA(R)TH project, which
gathers mathematics and the arts, a six-member team consisting of Professors
Marina Furkes and Iva Bolfek, and students Irma Wolf, Ana Puhar, Ivana
Međimurec and Mirta Strbad took part in mobility on the island of Corfu in
Greece. We started our journey on
Sunday, 2 February 2020 at midnight when we travelled to Vienna airport by the
school van. The following part of our
journey was an exciting, for some even first, flight to Athens, where teams
from Italy and Turkey joined us. At 2:30 pm, we finally arrived to Corfu where
we were greeted at the airport by our hosts for the week.
On the first day, each team presented their
current MA(R)TH activities at their school, which was very interesting. Our
presentation went great as well! After seeing the city of Corfu on Monday, we
played the game "Discover the town" in mixed teams on Tuesday. The
task was to solve mathematical puzzles that led to a building, a monument or an
artwork where the whole team had to take a group photo to show that we were all
working together. While playing the game we got to get to know out team mates
and we all got more comfortable with each other. The next day, we were again
divided into four teams, and we went to the "Escape Room" which, even
with a ton of effort we put into, we did not manage to escape. The day that
impressed us the most was definitely Thursday when we took a bus trip all over
the island. We visited the Achilleion Palace, that is the palace of the Austrian Empress Sisi,
which left us speechless. In addition to the beautiful interior and exterior of
the palace garden, there is a beautiful view of the entire island. After that
we also visited the National Gallery where we had the opportunity to see
paintings of famous artists such as El Greco.
On the last day we presented the timelines
of the most famous Croatian artists and mathematicians. Part of the musical
"Yalta, Yalta" "Let this whole world" very much lifted the
atmosphere and attracted the attention of the whole audience, and it was
followed by great applause. After all the presentations, the Greek school
prepared a farewell where they showed us their traditional dances.
With all the activities organized, we also had
some free time which we used to buy souvenirs, shop and socialize with other
students. It was not until the time of parting came that we became aware of how
much we connected with the other students and how quickly time went by.
